Daniel Demetrio Hernandez

Daniel Demetrio Hernandez (born July 23, 1976 in Tyler, Texas) is a Mexican-American soccer player, currently playing in Dallas Texas for FC Dallas.

High School:
Daniel graduated in 1994 from John Tyler High School, where he was a two-sport standout in soccer and football.  He was a soccer All-American and All-East Texas place kicker, when he set a school record with a 53 yard field goal. His fellow alumni includes one of the greatest running backs of all time, Earl Campbell.

College:
After attending Creighton University for his freshman year on a soccer scholarship, Daniel transferred to Southern Methodist University in the fall of '95 to play football and soccer, on what most people don't know, a football scholarship.  On the football field as a junior, the starting SMU Mustangs place kicker, Daniel, scored a team high 70 points and a school record 4 for 4 field goals in one game.  After playing two years of football and soccer, Daniel focused solely on soccer as a senior, where he captained the team as an attacking midfielder. He was a 3 time All-Midwest 1st Team member, 2 time Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, 3 time All-American, a Herman Trophy Finalist, a Sullivan Award Finalist, and "1998 Umbro National College Player of the Year". Daniel was also selected to the Elite 16 Men's College All Star Team, and named 1 of 11 Most Valuable Collegiate Players by Soccer America Magazine. 

Daniel finished his collegiate career ranked 5th in team history, scoring 92 points.  His 36 assists are 2nd all time for the Mustangs.

International:
Hernandez was called to U.S. National Team camp by Bruce Arena for its friendly game against El Salvador on Nov. 17, 2002. Was also in the U.S. camp prior to the World Cup, for a FIFA qualifier vs. Panama on Oct. 12, 2005 and was named to the squad for the match. Was also a member of the U.S. Under-17, -18, -20, and -23 National Teams.
